Our Philippine Vacation Part V (Boracay)

The night before our flight to Boracay, it rained real hard in Manila. It flooded the streets of several cities. We were supposed to have dinner with family at Aristocrat, but it got canceled. We were stranded at Ric’s Makati residence because it was flooded outside we couldn’t get back to our condo. We learned that most of the flights going to Caticlan being that they were smaller planes were cancelled. Our flight to Kalibo is still on schedule, thank God. But I was leery because our flight day was still rainy although it was better than the day before.

So we headed back to our condo on our flight day, just to pick up our stuff going to Boracay. This is where we really enjoyed the convenience of our condo just right in front of the terminal. We were able to avoid traffic. I saw some TV reporters interviewing passengers maybe for cancelled flights. But ours was still right on schedule. There were a few problems, one was there was initially no gate. So we had to transfer several times.

So we boarded our plane and it was the scariest flight of all time! Remind me not to travel after a storm, ok? So it was bumpy and we had a lot of really bad turbulences, and it didn’t help that the gays were screaming so loud! I literally prayed to God to just land the plane safely, and if not, I confessed all my sins….Yes, it was really that scary.

Thank God, we landed safely and I remember I was profusedly sweating because of all that nervousness. I thanked the pilot and he didn’t seem so bothered by the weather at all, he was a real pro. I remembered his name Capt. Tumalad.

The reason I wore a jacket is because the strap of my dress broke. Here's a pic at the Kalibo Terminal:

So I availed of the transpo service of the Hotel from Kalibo to Caticlan, to Boracay. They were right in front of the airport with the hotel name, and checked us in. This was another adventure, as it was a 2 hour steep bus ride with only one lane each way. So imagine when this bus driver had to pass and I saw some vehicles the other way arriving. So I got so stressed again, didn’t bother to enjoy the view, but just took a nap. I woke up finally at the Caticlan seaport. I just found out on our way home that we took the alternate seaport due to high winds and water on the main one.

So with manongs helping with our bags, it was so convenient that we really availed of the hotel transpo. With huge floaties around our chests, we rode the boat going to Boracay. And then another manong welcomed us. We walked a few feet to his fx, and rode another good 30 minutes to the beach. Wow, all these airplane, boat and land rides, walking, trekking, hiking, you name it, we did it all, so when we finally got to our beach, we just wanted to relax. Another manong met us with his wagon type pushcart, put our luggage on the wagon, and walked a few feet again to the lobby of our hotel. We’re here at last!

They greeted us with seashell necklaces and some refreshing iced tea. Overall, I love the ambiance of our hotel. It’s good enough.

We were led to our room which was way at the back.

It was a beachfront hotel yes, but the rooms were not. O well, at least the front is. We got it online. I love our room so much better than the one in Bohol.

We rested a little and couldn’t wait to check out the hotel and the beach.

But, o boy, was it so windy outside!!! Our hair was literally flying all over our faces, the wind just slapping over the plastic covers they put up in front. I asked the receptionist if it will be like this all the time, and she said yes, it was ‘hanging habagat’ daw. At that time, I didn’t know how I will enjoy it, nor if we can ever go swimming in the beach. To my surprise, it was only the beach front that was so windy. The area where the stores and restos are, were not. It was actually warm in there. So that was where we stroll that night, the store, d’mall, d’palengke.

After dinner, we heard that Manny P was there for a late night concert, but it was at around 11pm, we figured out that we’ll be tired and so we opted to rest and sleep instead.

The next morning, we enjoyed our hearty buffet breakfast. This day was so much better. The sun was out, and there was still some mild winds enough to create some waves for us to enjoy!

We could actually go out and swim, yay! Loved, loved, loved the waves!!!

Of course, we couldn't pass up the grotto even if it's a long walk from our hotel.

We enjoyed the scrumptious food as well.

We passed the activities offered since we already did a lot of that in Bohol, so we just basically relaxed, eat, enjoyed the sun, and the waters... It's really what a vacation should be.

We love Boracay and we'll definitely go back.
